Arthur Erickson’s influential Smith House II was built for the prolific abstract painter Gordon Smith and his wife Marion. Nestled in a high West Vancouver lot, its landscaping both provides shade and livability to a house that would be otherwise unbearably hot and cold, thanks to its vast expanses of clear single-paned glass. With its iconic status, Smith House II’s current owner, and architect Liana Sipelis take a light but strategic touch in maintaining and enhancing the house’s outdoor spaces.
