The Passive Narrowtive

Designed as a model “house for the future,” and to last to 100 years, this 2,650-square-foot home on a 25x122-foot lot is Certified Passive House. Adding to the challenge: the house sits atop 46 shoring piles on account of being built on a peat bog. Inside, the flexible layout offers five bedrooms and five bathrooms, plus a secondary basement suite with 8.5-foot ceilings, walk-out patio, and floor-to-ceiling glazing.

We originally photographed this groundbreaking house in late 2020 for the architect’s and builders’ Georgie Award entries. Over the next few years, it was subsequently published in the book Prefabulous for Everyone, and appeared across both local media (Montecristo Magazine and the Vancouver Sun, among others) and trade publications (SAB Magazine and Green Builder).
